How do you change an improper fraction to a mixed number?

Let's say the fraction was 8/6. First you could reduce it to make it 4/3. Then you take the denominator (3) see how many times it goes into or divide the numerator (4) and you get 1 remainder 1 so the answer would be 1 and 1/3 because you take the remainder and put it as the numerator and you keep the same denominator.
